We woke up after a wonderful sleep
and enjoyed a great breakfast in the dining room. We had decided to do an
“up-grade” which allowed us to have a drinks package and a la carte dining. Our
ship did not move over night as we had an excursion to go to the Three Gorges
Dam Site. This was an amazing piece of Chinese engineering with huge walls,
bridges and small ship lift and a series of 5 locks for the large ships. 1.5 million people had to be relocated as
their homes would have disappeared under the water. The government just moved
some of the homes higher up from the water and others were moved to a new
high-rise city. We still can’t quite come to terms with the fact that if the
government want something, it just gets done with no protests or fuss. People
are moved out the way and things just happen. We enjoyed the excursion
immensely. Back on board the boat we relaxed with wine and beer at happy hour
and a magnificent dinner. In the evening our ship started to move.
